About the database

The Chemical Resistance database covers over 200 plastics and elastomers, and nearly 5,000 exposure media – and is now available online for the first time.

Chemical Resistance of Plastics and Elastomers is designed to help users to make good decisions quickly – selecting the best materials in a wide range of design and manufacturing settings, across industry sectors from food, pharmaceuticals and medical devices to automotive, aerospace and electronics.

All the main commercial classes of plastic and elastomer are covered, with data showing how they interact with a wide range of different substances, encompassing chemical reagents, biological fluids and other exposure media, such as radiation.

Chemical Resistance Database Online – by M-Base

Leading online materials database provider, M-Base is working with Elsevier to take the Chemical Resistance database online for the first time.

The new web-based service will give engineers and scientists the toolkit they need to research and compare the interactions between plastics and potentially corrosive agents, and to make the right material selection decisions in design, manufacturing and usage settings.

About the Publishers

William Andrew Publishing was founded in the mid-1990s by former HP engineer, William Woishnis. Chemical Resistance was the first product from the new company, and has remained the flagship title of the Plastics Design Library book series ever since.

In 2008 the Chemical Resistance database was re-launched on CD-ROM in a significantly expanded form. This dataset forms the basis of the new online product, with M-Base updating the data going forward, implementing a continuous 'rolling revision'.

Elsevier acquired William Andrew Publishing in 2008.

Elsevier is one of the world's biggest Science & Technology publishers, known worldwide for its scientific journal publishing, as well as books published in a range of well-known imprints such as Academic Press and Butterworth-Heinemann.

M-Base Engineering + Software GmbH was founded in 1993 by Dr. Erwin Baur and Christine Thiel. M-Base is a leading international supplier of material databases, best known for its Materials Data Center product, and as the software providers for the CAMPUS consortium.
